Mayor Nuttter signed two bills to re-designate Center City as a commercial entertainment district in November. The new zoning includes a gallery in Market East, a shopping center that will accommodate Foxwood's proposed casino development plans. The next step is for the casino company to receive approval for its development plans from the Urban Planning Commission and the Game Control Commission.
Foxwoods has already had to choose an alternative site from its originally planned site in South Philadelphia, located on Columbus Boulevard, due to strong opposition to the plan.
